Paul Stewart founded the Black American Museum in 1971.  The museum is dedicated to collecting, preserving and disseminating the great contributions of Blacks in the Old West.  Hear stories of black cowboys, miners, soldiers, homesteaders and ranchers.  The museum is in the home of Dr. Justina Fort, Colorado’s first black female physician.

Located 35 minutes west of Denver, Colorado.   Argo tunnel provided water drainage, ventilation and economical transportation of gold ore.  Construction start in 1893 taking 17 years to reach over 4.5 miles to Central City.

Gold bearing ore collected from the mines throughout the tunnel were processed at Argo Mill. The mill prodcuced over $100,000,000 of gold when  the price for gold was $18 – $35 per ounce.  Today the mill statnds as a memorial to the hard rock miners of the day when GOLD WAS KING.

In 1877, Colorado became home to some most well-known dinosaurs discovered, including Brontosaurus, Diplodocus, Stegosaurus. In the 1930’s dinosaur tracks were found on the east sid eof Dinosaur Ridge in the rocks of the Dakota Group.

Dinosaur Ridge provides an educational experience for adults and children of all ages. Admission is free, you can drive and park to see several stops along the way or walk the Ridge.

Buffalo Bill, William Cody, was born in 1846 in Iowa and moved to Kansas when he was still a child. After working herding cattle & driving a wagon trail, William Cody joined the Pony Express in 1960.

Show business began for Buffalo Bill on Dec 17, 1872 in Chicago when he was twenty six in the show “Scouts of the Prairie.  The next season he formed his ouwn troupe “Scouts of the Plains”.  Buffalo Bill used real cowboys & girls in his shows.  The showsdemostrated roping, bronco riding & other skills that were to be used later in rodeos.  In 1887, Buffalo Bill and his Wild West show was invited to England whre they were a great hit.

Buffalo Bills’s first trip to Colorado was in 1959 as part of the Pikes Peak Gold Rush.  While in Colorado, he performed at the Central City Opera House and another opera house in Georgetown.

In 1917, Buffalo Bill died while visiting his sister in Denver and was buried on Lookout Mountain.  In 1921, the Buffalo Bill Memorial Museum was opened.  Millions of people saw Buffalo Bill in his Wild West show and millions have visited his grave since.  The museum is a top Denver visitor attraction.
