Genesee Bison Herd

In 1914, Bison were near extinction in Yellowstone. It was then that Denver enclosed 160 acres of Genesee Park to become home to 7 bison and 23 wild elk that wre transported by rail from Yellowstone. Now the pasture is about 500 acres of the 2340 acres the is considered Genesee Park. The bison can be view at the northwest corner of exit 254.

Genesee Park near Evergreen, Colorado offers more than the views, enjoy hiking, picnicking, grilling and camping.

Once upon a time  there was a splendid party! A humorous tribute to some of our favorite old stories, Fractured Fairytales promises attendees a light-hearted, magical evening complete with dinner, dancing, and a silent auction. Funds raised by this event will help Mt. Evans care for underinsured or uninsured patients as well as support numerous comunity services provided by Mt. Evans, including grief counseling, transportation for patients to medical appointments, respite care for family caregivers, and Camp Comfort, a bereavement camp for children.

Black American West Museum

Paul Stewart founded the Black American Museum in 1971.  The museum is dedicated to collecting, preserving and disseminating the great contributions of Blacks in the Old West.  Hear stories of black cowboys, miners, soldiers, homesteaders and ranchers.  The museum is in the home of Dr. Justina Fort, Colorado’s first black female physician.
