Denver became a boom-town with the discovery of gold, but only after surviving a flood, two major fires and several indian attacks.  Every outlaw, lawman and desperadoin the West visited the Mile High City with its’ saloons & gambling halls.  The Union Pacific Railroad bypassed Colorado on its transcontinental route, so the residents of Denver built their own railroad to meet the Union Pacific in Cheyenne, WY.  Denver has been known as the “Queen of the Plains” because of its elegance, parks, statues and elaborate mansions.  Since 1960, Denver has more than doubled its size.
